Walmart and Apple Pay in 2025: Still a No-Go

As of 2025, Walmart continues to reject Apple Pay across all its U.S. locations, including at self-checkout, online, and in-store. Instead, the retail giant promotes its proprietary mobile solution—Walmart Pay—which operates inside the Walmart app using QR codes for transactions. This strategy allows Walmart to avoid third-party transaction fees and maintain greater control over customer data and digital engagement.
Why the refusal to adopt Apple Pay? It’s a business choice. Walmart prefers to steer shoppers toward its ecosystem, where it can offer features like digital receipts and exclusive Walmart+ services. While you can’t use Apple Pay directly, creative workarounds like adding your Apple Card to Walmart Pay or purchasing Walmart gift cards through Apple Pay-friendly platforms can help.
Meanwhile, other big retailers like Kroger and Home Depot now support Apple Pay. Unless consumer pressure grows, Walmart’s current stance is unlikely to change anytime soon
