President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has unveiled a new digital tool designed to help Nigerians understand how upcoming tax reforms will affect their personal incomes. The Personal Income Tax Calculator, now available online, enables users to compare their current tax obligations with projected figures under the new laws set to take effect in January 2026.
Announcing the launch via his official X account, President Tinubu emphasized that the calculator is part of a broader effort to promote transparency and fairness in Nigeria’s tax system. He noted that the reforms aim to protect low-income earners while simplifying compliance for all taxpayers.
“A fair tax system must never punish poverty or weigh down the most vulnerable,” Tinubu stated. “With the new tax laws I recently signed, we’ve lifted that burden and created a path of equity, fairness, and true redistribution in our economy.”
The calculator allows individuals to input their income details and instantly view how their tax liability will change under the revised framework. It highlights the progressive nature of the reforms, showing how lower earners will benefit from reduced tax pressure while higher earners contribute proportionately.
Tinubu described the tool as a step toward building public trust and encouraging civic engagement in fiscal matters. “It shows clearly how these reforms protect low-income earners, ensure progressivity, and simplify compliance in order to deliver a transparent system that works for all,” he said.
“Together, we are renewing hope in the Nigeria of our dreams. Take a bet on our country. Bet on Nigeria to work for you, your family, and your community.”
The Personal Income Tax Calculator is now live and accessible to all Nigerians at https://fiscalreforms.ng/index.php/pit-calculator/ offering a user-friendly way to explore the impact of the 2026 tax reforms.
