Tokenizing Nigeria’s Assets: How RATOP Could Unlock Liquidity in Real Estate and Commodities

RATOP is a framework designed to tokenize real-world assets, essentially converting ownership of physical assets into digital tokens that can be bought and sold. Each token represents a fraction of an underlying asset, such as a building or a commodity reserve.


Instead of purchasing an entire property, an investor can own a small share through tokens. These tokens can then be traded on a digital platform, theoretically making asset ownership more flexible and accessible.

Property is the most obvious use case. Tokenization allows investors to buy fractional shares of residential or commercial buildings and potentially earn income through rent distribution.

Agricultural products and minerals can also be tokenized, offering investors exposure without requiring physical handling or storage.

The success of RATOP depends on one factor: liquidity. Tokens only have value if they can be easily traded. Without active buyers and sellers, tokenized assets risk becoming illiquid, just like the physical assets they represent.
